Wegthor was one of Krypton's moons, the only one with a complete colony and city state. The moon itself was a rocky wasteland of canyons and gorges. It was also rich in valuable minerals.
History[]
Prelude[]
Wegthor has primarily been a mining colony. At some point a massive ladder, known as a Hypersonic Orbital Tether, was constructed between it and Krypton proper, connecting the two celestial bodies.

Wegthor was the last free place for Kryptonians, with all their other city states having fallen to General Zod. A resistance mounted there, though it was under pressure from Zod's annexation forces.[1]

Val-El and Jax-Ur travelled to Wegthor to organize the resistance against General Zod and his army. Some hours later, Nyssa-Vex, who was earlier captured by Lyta-Zod and her soldiers, came to Val and Jax for help, as Dru-Zod sent her as a spy and took her son Cor-Vex as a blackmail. She told them about Dru-Zod's strategy to crush resistance by using solar flares to disable the communication on Wegthor for two hours while also supplying own army on the moon and moving them across the south perimeter.[2]
"Will To Power"[]

Val and Jax found the supplies on the south perimeter, containing the weaponry and oxygen sensors and vaccines, and captured few Sagitari soldiers. They discovered from them a new informations of Zod's army and began to prepare a new tactic and assault on his army, including to retake a Space Elevator. Meanwhile, Nyssa-Vex, having the trust from the Resistance, also seduced her old lover Araame in order to steal data for Zod.[3]
"Danger Close"[]

The rebels successfully attacked the army, only capturing the surviving Sagitari, Kem. The rebels went to prepare to retake Space Elevator in order to weaken Zod's army and take control of Wegthor. While Val and Jax were celebrating this victory, their familiar ally Adam Strange came to them, using Zeta Beam device after returning to Krypton. He informed Val that Seg was alive. Val told him that the Sagitari controlled several tunnels and that they a way to get Space Elevator. Shortly after, Nyssa told Val about a secret bioweapon from the data extracted from Araame, a weapon connected to Codex and genetic index, with the goal to eliminate all Sagitari soldiers, all engineered by Jax. Adam, Kem, Araame and other rebels went to underground tunnels to find a base station. In the same time, Jax sent ground support to attack Sagitari. Araame could not activate access terminal (due to its key not valid) to get to the base station. Jax then soon noticed a trap: the oxygen vaccines and sensors were tainted by Zod as a surprise tactic, resulting in death of ground support. In desperation, Jax ordered Araame to activate bioweapon, but this backfired as Val and Nyssa found and turned it off; Val was angry on her dishonesty, while Nyssa took a Codex for Zod and left resistance HQ. Adam and others were soon captured by Sagitari and Lyta in underground tunnels.[4]

Several rebels were taken to Sagitari base, while the rest of them were in difficult situation. One captured rebel Araame was sent by Lyta to persuade Jax and Val to surrender. Both then decided for negotiations. When they came, Lyta offered them to surrender peacefully or be shot by her snipers. Jax refused and activated her hidden laser beam in her modified replacement eye, killing snipers, and taking Lyta to rebel's HQ. Jax gave ultimatum to Dru-Zod to surrender or she will execute Lyta for one hour. Val heavily protested against executing Lyta, fearing that this would lead to worse situation, but Jax refused his protests and ordered the soldiers to lock him. Zod decided to retreat Sagitari to Krypton and release the remaining rebels (except for Adam and Kem in the case if something went wrong), while Jax promised to release Lyta. Adam and Kem were released by Nyssa, going through the underground tunnels. Kem noticed bio-reading, but felt was something wrong and they went to Jax and Val. Adam and Kem warned Jax that Zod secretly put a rebels in the elevator, disguised as Sagitari, while his forces were in the mines ready to attack the remaining rebels, in trying to deceive her. Furious, she immediately executed Lyta.[5]

After the execution, many rebels were shocked by Jax's act. Jax justified this in her belief that this will weaken Dru-Zod, but Val heavily disagreed and convinced everyone that her act could lead to another tyranny. Almost everyone agreed and they took her leadership, instead giving it to Val, while Jax and Araame were put in the secured cell. Soon after, Zod contacted Val and demanded to deliver Jax-Ur for one hour or all rebels will die. Val decided to surrender Jax to him, while giving enough time to make another tactic against his army. Jax and Araame escaped from the prison, using subcutaneous communicator as a weapon and killing one guard. They also stolen gravity bombs to destroy Space Elevator base. Val, Adam and Kem found Jax and Araame, but the latter was killed by Val. Despite her shock, she tried to convince him to detonate the base station to weaken Zod's forces. Val contacted Zod, who demanded Jax while also offering him to work in the Science Guild. Val ultimately refused, detonated the bomb and destroyed Space Elevator. Despite Jax's advice, Val banished her because of her recent murder of Lyta-Zod.[6]

Hours later, Val sent Kem and others to find other Sagitari hidden in the mines. Kem managed to find them, irradiated with stelarium and exhausted. The rebels began to cure them.[7]

As the rebels began to prepare for futher fights, Seg and Nyssa arrived on their base, with their modified skimmer for space. Seg warned them that Zod's fleet of the ships were coming soon. As they prepared, one ship with Sagitari and Doomsday arrived on the surface. Commander Rune-Lux and his assault team began to fire on him, but they were quickly slaughtered. Seg, Val and their friends decided to split in order to slow down Doomsday and to evacuate many rebels and civilians as possible. Val ordered Seg and Kem to put explosives in the mines so they could trap him and Val activating them afar, but the power network in HQ was destroyed, forcing them to detonate on the surface. While Val and Adam were trapped in HQ, Seg and Kem continued to put the explosives. Doomsday arrived and killed the whole unit, while Seg and Kem barely escaped. Noticing that his detonator was missing, Seg decided to get it, but Kem chose otherwise to put a force barrier between them, so that Kem could save his life. Kem found the detonator, but Doomsday found and killed him, but not before detonating the explosives in the tunnels. Meanwhile, Nyssa and the rebels successfully captured Sagitari ship, and Val and Adam got out from HQ. The explosives caused a wide chain reaction, resulting in the destruction of the moon, also killing Doomsday. All rebels got out from it. Seg found own skimmer, but the moon soon exploded.[8]

As a result of moon's destruction, the meteorites of it began to fall on Kryptonian places such as Kandor. In the space with the moon's remains, Seg's skimmer was there, as he successfully ran from the explosion.[9]

Trivia[]
- In DC comics, Wegthor was Krypton's principal moon and the site of the first lunar colony. The moon and its 500 colonists were accidentally destroyed when the scientist Jax-Ur tested a nuclear missile designed to destroy a meteor. As a result he was the first Kryptonian imprisoned in the Phantom Zone in pre-Crisis continuity. After its destruction, its debris formed the rings around Krypton. The moon first appeared in Superman #141 (November 1960).
