He was quickly found by his mother in a skimmer, which they used to travel to his grandfather's Fortress of Solitude. Arriving there, Seg used the sunstone to unlock the Fortress.[1]

During the war between the resistance movement and Voice of Rao/Brainiac, Seg came to Fortress, holding the sunstone when grieving the supposed death of Adam Strange and belief that he will never meet own grandson Kal-El. Var-El noticed and revealed to him that the origin of El's sigil, the same one on the sunstone, comes from the ancient Kryptonian word for hope where the ancestors chose it and defined it for generations, to achieve a great accomplishments not by words, but through the action. Seg later gave the sunstone to Nyssa, telling her that Val shuts down the Fortress and that Nyssa goes to Argo City for safety. When VOR tried to kill Seg, Nyssa put the sunstone on his head, disintegrating him. Seg soon picked up after the real Brainiac arrived to collect Kandor.[2]
