The Religious Guild is the authority in Kandor City on the planet Krypton.
Biography[]
The Religious Guild was one of the three guilds that ruled Krypton, alongside with the Lawmakers Guild and the Military Guild. The function of the guild was to prepare religious ceremonies in worshipping their deity Rao. The leader of the Religious Guild was the Voice of Rao, who served as a prophet to the deity. In reality, the VOR was revealed to be a foreign alien being named Brainiac who attempted to manipulate the people and later destroy Kandor City and its planet.
During his rule, VOR told one of his followers Anda to prepare the religious ceremony Nova Cycle to ensure the peace on the planet. While Anda said that it would be for several years, other follower Sevi immediately agreed with him. They began to announce the parade in the Rankless District following the civil unrest caused by Sagitari soldiers while searching for the Black Zero operatives. One citizen named Ona approached him with a black statue of Rao to give her the blessing for her and her dying mother Rhom. Touched by her situation, VOR gave her the rank and the membership of the guild.[1]
The ceremony was set in motion, gathering many citizens in the Hall of Justice. This ceremony was interrupted by the resistance movement who attempted to assassinate VOR. Despite this, VOR proceeded to begin the last stage of ceremony, "The Flame of Rebirth". During the ceremony, Anda cut his speech, realising that VOR is an imposter. VOR then came to altar covered in flames, shocking the people and convincing them that he is a transcendent being who will give them an eternal life.[2]
Due to recent events, Anda and Sevi began to question the nature of VOR. One night, Sevi followed him through the Genesis Chamber, sucking the energy from it, using embrios as batteries to become more stronger being. She escaped and informed Anda about it. Sevi later went to inform the resistance movement about VOR's intentions. Seg and his allies found and shot VOR in the chamber, but VOR managed to get out alive. VOR found Ona, who soon realised his intentions but was too late when VOR brainwashed her, using her as a bomb to destroy resistance HQ.[3]
After the war with Brainiac and subsequent rise to power of General Zod, the Religious Guild was presumably abolished.
