The Rankless District is an area of Kandor City in which rankless lived.

History[]

Seg-El participated in a fight at Kem's bar, earning themselves a bit of money, before he returned home. He later returned to tell Kem of his being promoted to a guild, when Seg noticed the Voice of Rao walking through the Rankless District with some violent Sagitari. Seg attempted to stop one of them hurting a burnt out old man, but he was accosted. Allowed to go, he was intercepted by Adam Strange, who told him of an impending danger for Krypton. Seg later returned to ask Kem for help acquiring a skimmer.[1]

Seg sent Adam Strange to Kem's bar, where he had him ask for more inconspicuous clothes. He also brought a device allowing access to the Science Guild's data banks, which they attempted to use to find evidence of Brainiac. Receiving his parents' ashes, Seg returned home, where he was visited by Rhom and Ona, the latter of who gave him a rock with a House of El sigil. He later brought back a forward scout of Brainiac's, discovering Brainiac to already be on Krypton.[2]

The Military Guild sent Sagitari in one part of Rankless District area, Sector 19, believing to contain Black Zero operatives. One Sagitari, Kol-Da, killed one Rankless believing to be a Black Zero operative. At the same time, some Sagitari soldiers were killed by brainwashed Rhom. Seg later stopped her and took her to Fortress of Solitude.[3]

The Rankless District later became the headquarters of the resistance movement made by Seg and his friends and allies. This place, including Kem's bar, were comprimised when the young girl Ona came with the bomb, at the hands of Brainiac, who wanted to get revenge for disposing him. Seg and his allies were nearly killed when the explosion ensued, but the ally from the future Adam Strange managed to protected them using the shield from Zeta Beam device, resulting in his sacrifice and apparent death.[4]

After the war with Brainiac and subsequent rise to power of General Zod, all Rankless citizens were required to register in Sagitari army, as part of Zod's program that all Rankless people become equal. While most of the areas were built anew, the Rankless District went to some changes, leaving some parts that were intact, but its name was presumably declared obsolete. There was still a secret underground rebel network used for insurgence against Zod's regime.
