The Outlands are a region of Krypton.

History[]

A rankless man worked in the Outlands for forty years, eventually being driven mad.[1]

After visiting his soon to be father-in-law, Daron-Vex, Seg-El got assigned to the Science Guild in order to look through scientific reports. The future traveller from Earth and Seg's ally, Adam Strange, used the data to locate somewhere in the Outlands to provide the proof that Brainiac is coming to Krypton. Adam and Kem went in Outlands to check a meteorological anomaly that struck Krypton three days previously. They found a proof that Brainiac arrived in Krypton - a probe device that he sent before him to prepare the planet for his arrival.[2] Val-El's hologram explained to them that the probe device contains the sentry, which is used to infect the host with parasite - the host is under the Brainiac's control so that he could collect data about Krypton and destroy it. Once the host relays data to him, it will die. One Kryptonian, as a salvager, was in Outlands to collect the anomaly in the region three days prior - Rhom, who picked up the sentry and attempted to sell it in the black markets, unaware that the sentry from the scout device contained the parasite, entering her body so that Brainiac could control her.[3]

When Seg-El was captured by Black Zero operatives, one of them named Kiyo put the bug from this region, as the bug has the ability to retrieve the informations from the suspect, in Seg-El's case entering his nostril and coming out from his ear. Seg later incapacitated Kiyo and escaped from them, finding himself in icy wilderness in Outlands.[4]

While Dru-Zod and Kiyo were in the search, Seg went to base to pick up some supply to survive, but also found a prisoner Raika from Cynthonnite cult. After releasing her, they went through the ice tunnels until they were found by the same cult. After brief recovery, he urged Raika to help him. Raika was reluctant to do so, but Seg lied to her that her family will find him relentlessly. Raika gave him the oxygen mask and communications device, finding once again in the Outlands. The oxygen supplier was removed due to its shortage. Seg then remembered to pull out computer device from supplier and connected it to com device, finally contacting Adam Strange for help. In dire situation due to its harsh winter, Seg also sent a message for Lyta in the case he doesn't make it. Strange came to Lyta to give her a device and a message. Lyta took Strange and lieutenant Tai-Un in their search and rescue operation, but Zod quickly found him and took him back to his base. When captured, Seg realised why Raika was needed for Zod and his soldiers due to her knowledge of stopping Brainiac. Lyta and her companions found Zod's lair and released him from his captivity.[5] Sometime later, Lyta, Seg and Nyssa-Vex went in this region where brainwashed Dev-Em was still alive, but gravely injured, gaining the semi-consciousness, after he left other region Jewel Mountains.[6]

During Dru-Zod's rule, two Sagitari skimmers went to Outlands to investigate an activity, but they were taken down by the creature named Doomsday. Some hours later, Jayna-Zod (former Primus of Military Guild) and her brother Vidar-Zod were camping in the Outlands, telling the story about two gods who created planet Krypton. They continued to travel in the mountains until coming to the nearest Outlands bar. She thanked to her brother, who was actually revealed to be a hallucination, as her brother truly died from the cold in Outlands in the past when Vidar and Jayna were in the mission sent from her father Lor-Zod.[7]

Seg and Adam Strange returned from Colu to Krypton by using Zeta Beam device, finding themselves in Outlands. After some resting, they quickly arrived in Kandor.[8][9]

Jayna-Zod and Dev-Em left Outlands with his modified skimmer to travel to Kandor in their fight against Dru-Zod.[10]

Seg used skimmer to pick up Nyssa and her child Cor-Vex to escape in Outlands and land to near Outlands bar New Lurvan. After the discussion between him and Brainiac about how to defeat Dru-Zod, Seg decided to leave the place and go to his ship in order to have powers against Zod, with the help of Nyssa. Around the same time, Dru-Zod went to test the weapon with the Codex in Outlands, entering the cave and finding Doomsday, where he successfully fired and captured him.[11][12]

After Seg, Nyssa, Jayna and Dev-Em disabled the shipyard, while also finding the real Lyta-Zod alive in the guild (as her clone was killed by Jax-Ur on Wegthor), they settled in Outlands outpost. While Jayna, Dev and Lyta stayed, Seg and Nyssa left Outlands with modified skimmer to travel to Wegthor. Soon after, a few Sagitari were sent to find them. They captured both Sagitari and Lyta convinced them to join in their cause to expose Dru-Zod's treachery.[13]
