"My whole life has been a lie."
—Nyssa-Vex

Nyssa-Vex is the youngest daughter of Daron-Vex, the intended of Seg-El and the mother of Jor-El. Two hundred years into the future, Nyssa will become the grandmother of Kal-El, Jor-El's only child, known later across the universe as Superman, the last son of Krypton.

Biography[]

Nyssa-Vex is the daughter of Daron from Bokos and an unnamed Vex woman. She was born in the city-state of Kandor City and is the last child of five daughters. Nyssa was a successful woman in the Lawmakers Guild until her father and she decided to take on the Voice of Rao and missed their coup.

Prelude[]

In "Phantom Zone", Nyssa learns that as a child, she and her mother had a Skimmer accident on their way to Bokos during a blizzard which caused her mother's life and hers. She had a broken spine, a fractured skull, and countless internal injuries. Her father used the Vara Protocol to transfer her consciousness from her dying original body into a clone body of herself to save her.

In "Transformation", Nyssa mentions to Seg a previous relationship with a female combat instructor in the Military Guild which ended, due to infidelity on her lover's side.

Season 1[]

"Pilot"[]

Krypton-tv-series-mystery-syfy

Nyssa is first seen in the chamber of the Lawmakers Guild by her father's side at the execution of some members of the terrorist organization Black Zero.

When a member of Black Zero infiltrates into the chamber and tries to blow up everyone, Seg-El pushes the terrorist down on the floor while Nyssa pulls back behind her father when Sagitari shoots on the body bomb.

After the incident, Daron-Vex brings Seg into his office with Nyssa. Ter-El is present and assists Daron. There, Daron announces to Seg that as a reward for his action, he will be Ranked, join the Science Guild, and bind with Nyssa. At that, Nyssa express her approval verbally to her father and smiles.

Later in the Genesis Chamber, Nyssa and Seg are expected to go see the Oracle in order to learn the future of their child. On their way, Nyssa comments the old way of carrying babes in women's womb as inefficient. During the presentation, Nyssa glances at Seg and learn that she is having a son called Cor-Vex. The Oracle predicts that Cor-Vex would be a good person and best suited in the Lawmakers Guild. It also indicates that Cor-Vex would live 173 cycles. In the end, Nyssa makes fun of the fact that very much of Cor-Ve's predetermined comes from her. On her way out, she tries her son's name out loud and states that from what she saw, his good looking character is what she takes from the Oracle. Seg stops her by asking her if the predetermined life of their child bothers her. Nyssa replies by telling him that it is a miracle that she's been allowed to bind with someone and for that, she'll take what she can including her Rankless boy from a family deemed traitor to the nation. Seg defiantly says that she just accept whatever her father tells her to do. Nyssa retorts that she hopes he's not that naïve and says that his binding to the House of Vex is just a move to prove to everyone that an El could be controlled. Seg concludes that he's just a game piece and Nyssa tells him that Daron's plans are nothing more but a game with Kandor as his chessboard including her and all Kandoriens. She adds that his looks don't bother her. She continues by stating that she could help him to live as a newly Ranked. She ends by mysteriously saying that her father is the only one that thinks Seg was his choice.

Nyssa is last seen at Charys-El's trial with her father while he interrogates Charys and then witnessing Charys-El and Ter-El's death.[1]

"House of El"[]

Nyssa has Seg brought to her, taking him to talk to her father about his investiture ceremony. The following day, in an attempt to gain his trust, Nyssa gave Seg his parent's ashes. Later, she walked through the Lawmakers Guild with her father before Seg's ceremony, coming across him. He expressed his displeasure with joining the House of Vex, instead choosing to wear the symbol of the Science Guild, an act approved by the Voice of Rao.[2]

"The Rankless Initiative"[]

Nyssa catch Seg at the Guilds, on his way to talk to Lyta-Zod. She talked to him about his need to lie better if he intended to keep his secrets, and told him of Lyta's promotion to commander of the Sagitari. Afterwards, she was with her father and witnessed the Voice of Rao's anger at the attempt on his life made by Black Zero and his threats against her father if the Rankless initiative was a failure. Later on, Nyssa informs her father on the fiasco of the initiative with only one arrest; Kol-Da, a member of Lyta's Sagitari squad.[3]

"The Word of Rao"[]

While dressing up for the day, Nyssa is interrupted by Seg-El who arrives to ask for help. After Lyta-Zod's arrest, Seg asks if she could help save Lyta, knowing that the House of Vex is prominent in the Lawmakers Guild. Nyssa, suspecting why Seg desperately wants to save Lyta's life, pushes him to reveal his feelings towards Lyta. When Seg admits his secret affair with Lyta, Nyssa promises to do everything she can to save her.

Thereafter, Nyssa went to see Lyta in her detention cell to announce her she would defend her. Lyta, at first wary of Nyssa because of her father and her link with Seg, did not want anything to do with her. However, when Nyssa explained to her that she was her best chance to get out of this trial unscathed, saying that if she did not trust her, she had to trust Seg as he was the one who came to her for help, Lyta got convinced by her intentions and started to work with her.

Later that day Nyssa realized that her father, Daron-Vex, falsified evidence against Lyta, and went to ask him why he chose Lyta-Zod as a scapegoat. She reminded him that their plan to overthrown the Voice of Rao was based on the control of the Sagitari which was supposed to happen by gaining Jayna-Zod's trust. She tries to plead for Lyta's freedom, stating that she is not afraid of the Voice of Rao but her father is adamant; the Voice of Rao needs a highly

ranked military officer to be held responsible for the fiasco to appease the rankless.

Realizing that she is hitting a wall with her father, Nyssa decides to go behind her father's back and talk to Jayna-Zod. She offers Jayna an alternative: her loyalty to their plan to overthrow the Voice of Rao in exchange for Lyta's life. Jayna is more than reticent, knowing that the House of Vex and more specifically Daron-Vex are not trustworthy and that agreeing to that deal would dishonor the House of Zod which is known to be the most honorable in Krypton since it began. Nyssa gives her time to think about the worth of that honor if it means she has to sacrifice her only child for it.[4]

"House of Zod"[]

Following her proposal to Jayna, Nyssa tells her father about it. Furious that she risked telling Jayna their plans, he asked her why she would do such a thing and wondered if it was not for Seg-El. Nyssa denies this, claiming that they needed Jayna as she is Primus of the Sagitari. Her father expressed his worries that with what she did, both the Voice of Rao and Jayna could kill them.

Nyssa goes back to Jayna and try to convince her to agree to the deal she proposed to her. Jayna expresses her hostility towards her and her house. She adds that she is not a leader and that her house is not worthy to rule Kandor.

Tumblr p7jkyzQ2B41s0kbsmo3 540

Nyssa nods to her father that Jayna agrees to the deal.

At Lyta's execution, Nyssa is present. She tries one last time to press Jayna to rally herself with her father's coup and save her daughter's life which she eventually does. Jayna complies and Nyssa nods to her father to let him know that Jayna is in which prompts him to stop the execution.

Later on, Nyssa joins her father in Kol-Da's cell. Daron-Vex orders Kol-Da's death, faking suicide to cover his tracks with the Voice of Rao. She tells him that "you nearly had me fooled" about his feelings for Kol-Da but that nevertheless his feelings for her, he still ordered her death by which he responds that she made him do it, a sacrifice had to be made and with Lyta alive, the Voice of Rao still needed a scapegoat.

She comes to Lyta after she sent her a message telling Nyssa she needed to speak with her. Lyta asks her how come she is still alive. Nyssa answer by telling her that "Rao works in mysterious ways." Lyta does not buy it and wants to know what happened between her and Jayna and where Seg is. Immediately after Adam Strange comes, cuffed with a Sagitari and Nyssa leave before Lyta can do anything. [5]

"Civil Wars"[]

Nyssa, her father, and Jayna are discussing the details of their coup. They have decided to act during the Ascension ceremony in the Hall of Justice by activating a bomb. This will be a private ceremony which means minimal collateral damage. Jayna is still wary of the fact that the House of Vex has forced her hand into this but is convinced that for the plan to work they will need Dev-Em as the Voice of Rao trusts him. Nyssa is worried where his loyalty lies as the House of Em is known to be a traditional house but Jayna vouches for him.

Krypton gallery 106promo 03

Nyssa and her father talking to Jayna-Zod of the coup.

During a ceremony that pardoned some criminals in honor of the Nova Cycle, Nyssa is there. When an officer signals that there has to be mistake in the release of one of the Black Zero bomb maker, Nyssa intervenes and pressures the release by stating it is "Rao's infinite mercy" and the Voice of Rao that decided the release of this man. She then orders Dev-Em to escort the prisoner safely out the building.

Nyssa is nearby when Daron-Vex express his anger to Jayna that pardoning the Black Zero prisoner is raising suspicions. Jayna explain to him that it was only an unfortunate turn of events and that there was nothing they could have done. If they changed assignment at the last minute just before the attack it would have raised suspicion. But Daron-Vex reminds her that they are trying to free a Black Zero operative so they can put the blame on him for the bomb they will detonate but it will only work if no one is looking for the said prisoner.

Again, Nyssa is with her father when Dev-Em informs him that the Hall of Justice will be full of people of all ranks and that there will be a lot more of collateral damage than they thought. He appeals to abort the plan but Daron is afraid that backing out now will be more dangerous for them. Dismissing him, Dev-Em turns to Jayna to back him up but Jayna agrees with Daron, saying that they paid too much already.[6]

"Transformation"[]

Nyssa is waiting in her quarters for news about their coup on the Voice of Rao. When she decides to leave with her bag, a Sagitari stops her, stating that she under arrest and that she is no longer allowed to leave her quarters. When she asks who ordered her arrest, he replies "Chief Magistrate Daron-Vex".

When her father comes in her quarter to kill her, Nyssa is sitting on her couch listening to the song her mother put when she had trouble sleeping when she was a child. Her father tells her that her courage was something he always admired and that her lack of fear except for failure was what made her his favorite daughter. Then he tell her he tried to protect her but there was no other way before rising his gun and shoots at her. The gunshot goes through her, revealing it was an hologram, when the real Nyssa appears from behind her father and put a knife to his throat, warning that if he shouts for help she will kill him.

Nyssa angry.

She sits him on her couch and tells him of her anger and disappointment that he was willing to kill her. She express her sadness stating that "all my life, I watched you betray and destroy everyone around you but I always hold up hope that I was different". Nyssa continues by declaring that she thought that in his own way he loved her. Her father tries to reinstate that she is special and that he does love her. She accuses him of having raised her into being his perfect political ally at the expense of her friendship, morality and own ambitions and to have taught her to use people and discard them when they are no longer needed which she claims is a lesson she learnt very well. Nyssa is about to kill him when she hears noises outside her room. It is Seg. She makes her father grant him access to her room.

Seg tries to get answers out of Daron-Vex.

She lets Seg interrogate him for information on Brainiac and what he is planning for Kandor but he doesn't know anything and claims that he can't help them get out of here. Nyssa wants to finish him right there but

Seg insists that he is right. Daron-Vex takes an opportunity to take Nyssa's gun and call for the guards outside her room. Nyssa punches her father on the nose and hides herself when the guards come in while her father goes out of her room. Seg and Nyssa engage in a fight with the guards, each taking one guard and they kill them both. They exit her room by taking the guards uniforms and pretend to be them while other guards go in the room and Nyssa take them out of the building.

Later, out in Kandor City, they are taking their uniforms off when Nyssa thanks Seg for risking his life for her even though it was stupid in her opinion which prompts Seg to tell her "you need to lighten up". A patrol passes right next to them then so Nyssa tries to cover them by kissing Seg but they are spotted anyway and run away. When the patrol catches up to them after they end up in a dead end, Nyssa pleads with them to let Seg go as it is her they want. Both Nyssa and Seg smile and when the Sagitari asks them why, Seg answers by telling them that they are about to be punched in the face. Lyta and Jayna come right behind the Sagitari and neutralize them.

After they have been rescued, Nyssa find herself with Seg, Lyta-Zod, Jayna-Zod and General Zod. The Zods do not welcome Nyssa with open arms, saying that she is not trustworthy just like her father but Seg pleads her case. Afterwards, they all want to take Brainiac down in different ways. General Zod wants to attack now no matter what, Jayna proposes to go to Kryptonopolis to raise an army with the help of other cities and resources against Brainiac. Nyssa mentions that she and her sisters can help as they have connections and resources that can help them. Seg proposes to raise an army in Kandor by showing the people the true nature of the Voice of Rao (Brainiac) during the Nova Cycle celebration. Everyone agrees. Except that the mission don't go as expected when Brainiac reveals his power to the people who cheer him even more.[7]

"Savage Night"[]

Nyssa is with the rest of the resistance when they learn that Brainiac is using the babies in the Genesis Chamber to power himself up. She is clearly alarmed at the news and for what it means for her son, Cor-Vex. Later, when Lyta and Seg argue over Nyssa's implication in their plan to defeat Brainiac, she states her value by owning the threat of what she represents if they don't let go with them.

Nyssa, Seg-El, and Lyta-Zod.

On a skimmer with Lyta and Seg, Nyssa brings up the old times where she'd go to parties of the Artisan Guild on skimmer. Lyta reacts by saying that with everything that happen, the Guilds in Kandor do not matter and adds "Neither do bindings".

After they rescue Dev-Em in the Outlands, Nyssa and the others go to the Fortress of Solitude. She express her wonderment at being in that place after all the years her father spent trying to find it. Nyssa and Seg talk about the recent events. Seg tells her about his doubts on what he is doing to save Kandor and she tries to elevate his spirits by reminding him he saved her life and maybe their child, if their plan works. When General Zod contacts Seg to tell him about a deal he made with Black Zero, Nyssa tells Zod she agree to give her father to them in exchange of their help to destroy Brainiac. Still in the Fortress of Solitude with Lyta, Nyssa helps her stabilize Dev-Em long enough for Val-El's projection to sever the links between the Red Guard and Brainiac.

Nyssa confronts her father one last time.

Following the success of their plan, Nyssa says goodbye to her father one last time before Black Zero takes him. She explain that she knows that he was trying to survive since its the only thing he ever know throughout his life and for that, she forgives him for trying to kill her. Nyssa confess to Daron her will to be more than the survivor he raised her to be. After she finishes with what she wanted to say to him, she put back his blindfold and says her goodbye with sadness as she walks away.[8]

"Hope"[]

Nyssa is seen talking to a Sagitari about the Voice of Rao and an eventual plan to defeat him. But the Sagitari states that with what's left of the Sagitari, a Primus as a traitor and the council gone, there's nothing he can do to help. Later, Nyssa is there when Seg and Jayna learns that Lyta and Dru-Zod went back to unleash Doomsday to which she comments by saying that she was the one everyone was afraid would betray them. After acquiring Doomsday before the Zods, Nyssa who's with the people of Cythonna, informs Seg that the

extraction of Doomsday from his chamber damaged the barrier that neutralizes him. She is later joined by Seg to find a solution before Doomsday wakes up and destroys Kandor but the people of Cythonna find it in their best interests to out Doomsday in Kandor and let it be taken away by Brainiac.

Back to the Fortress, Nyssa and Seg do not know what to do after everyone left and everything in peril. Nyssa proposes to Seg that they make a run to Argo City to which Seg assumes means she wants to give up on him to save Krypton and run away. Nyssa replies by saying "I'm not Lyta. I believe in you" and they both look at Superman's cape being erased and Seg tells her that maybe she shouldn't.

Later on, Nyssa comes back to inform Seg that Jayna did not give any news. Her and Seg comes to the conclusion that Brainiac is going to use the generator of the dome that protects the city from the ice to bring his ship to Krypton. They set up a plan that requires Black Zero and the Sagitari to protect the generator but both sides are reluctant to work with the other but fortunately Seg and Nyssa both manage to convince them.

At a meeting where both Black Zero and Sagitari are united to work together, Nyssa is there. Seg trusts her with the Sunstone and tell her to run with it to the Fortress to shut everything down and after, to go to Argo City.

However, when Seg is about to be killed by Brainiac, Nyssa comes behind him and hit him in the back of his head with the Sunstone which apparently disintegrates him. She tells Seg that she did not know it would happen and kisses him. But despite their efforts, they both witness the dome shatter and the arrival of Brainiac on Krypton and run.[9]

"The Phantom Zone"[]

Nyssa with Seg, is trying to go back to the Fortress of Solitude despite the cold and the snow brought down by the destruction of the dome by Brainiac. They are found by Lyta and Dru-Zod in the street of Kandor and they tell them about the arrival of Brainiac. The Zods learn Seg of his grandfather survival in the Phantom Zone. Back to the Fortress, Nyssa and co talks about Zod's betrayal to Val-El and how he double-crossed him to escape the Phantom Zone. They hope that Val-El could have a way to destroy Brainiac. Zod volunteer to go back and get him out of the Phantom Zone but Nyssa express her distrust towards General Zod's intentions. When General Zod comes back with him, Val-El tell them that unfortunately, in all versions of the future he saw, there is no good outcome for Krypton. Everyone has its own plan on how to handle the situation, Seg wants to evacuate the city, Lyta wants to fight Brainiac no matter what and Dru-Zod wants to use Doomsday. Seg decides that no one would go anywhere as he has the control of the only skimmer that can go to the city. Nyssa talks to Lyta and tells her about the people of Cythonna secrets tunnels to the city and use the opportunity to go back to Kandor City and evacuate her son, Cor-Vex from the Genesis Chamber and Kandor.

At the Genesis Chamber, Nyssa forces the Oracle to prepare her son for immediate transportation. She encounters Jax-Ur on her way out. Jax-Ur confronts Nyssa about her role in corrupting Kandor. Nyssa tells her that she is ready to face any consequences for her actions but her son, Cor-Vex, has done nothing yet and deserve to be free. Jax-Ur argue that no one is free and choose to reveal to Nyssa the truth about Kandor.

Nyssa discovers the truth about herself.

She led her back to the Oracle and reveal to her that Nyssa's original body perished with her mother and her father transferred her consciousness into a clone body of herself. Nyssa don't believe her and so, Jax-Ur initiate the Vara protocol and show the clone bodies of the most elite Ranked people of Kandor City.

One month after Brainiac banishment to the Phantom Zone, Nyssa is seen by Jax-Ur side, leading her to the Fortress of Solitude where they find Val-El, still trying desperately to free Seg from the Phantom Zone.

Season 2[]

"Light Years From Home"[]

Adam Strange meets the Resistance

6 months after Seg-El and Brainiac banishment, Nyssa cradling a newborn Cor-Vex meet Adam Strange again in Mama Zed's hidden place with Val-El and Jax-Ur. There, Adam explains what he saw in the future of his planet, with Zod's and Brainiac's apparent involvement. After his explanations, Val and she deduct the possibility of Seg's return. Afterward, they explain to him what has been happening on Krypton during the last 6 months: Zod's conquest of their planet and their resistance. Nyssa tells him that they have a plan: the ownership of the moon of Wak Thor. She goes on by explaining that Zod freed the Rankless to get their attention on something else and that Zod needs that moon to create a fleet design to conquer other planets.

Later, after been tipped off on the location of her father, Daron-Vex, Nyssa decides to go for Bokos. Jax-Ur stops her and tries to convince her to think about the origin of the tip and assure Nyssa that it is a trap. Nyssa replies that it is not the first one they had to deal with since Zod overtook Kandor and that they'll figure something out.

Tumblr pt8fbwWqwV1w6vhrto3 540

She insists that she has to go for Bokos for it is maybe her last chance to know the truth. Jax-Ur maintains that the truth won't change who she is. Filled with sadness, Nyssa replies to her that she doesn't know who she is anymore.

Jax-Ur firmly tells her that the last 6 months revealed her who Nyssa really is: A loyal, utterly fearless woman and a wonderful mother and a true friend. Suddenly, they hear noises not far from them and hid behind a wall. They see Mama Zed coming out of the shadow and reveal themselves to her. She tells Nyssa that a skimmer is ready for her but she needs to go now. Jax-Ur distressed, asks Nyssa if she is sure to go with Cor. Mama Zed responds by telling Jax that he'll be fine since she is going with them and she'll take care of him while Nyssa goes to look for her father. Then she presses Nyssa and goes. Nyssa just behind her is stopped again by Jax. At the look on Jax's face, Nyssa assures her again that they'll be fine and thank her for everything. She promises to come back. Jax with unsure eyes, askes her to be careful. Nyssa leaves determined.

Tumblr pt8cis6vWy1w6vhrto5 400

Sometime later, on Bokos, Nyssa points a gun at her father's head and say hello to her father. She tells him that she's been searching for him since he escaped and she had almost given up. He asks her how she did find him. She tells him that for as long as she could remember he despised Bokos and that is why she never thought of looking there until a source of hers told her. Daron praises her resourcefulness but Nyssa stops him by proclaiming that she never understood his hate for this city until she learned that he was born and raised on Bokos. Surprised by this revelation, Daron reasons that Jax-Ur must have told her. She tells him that she and Jax did develop a bond over these last 6 months. Adding that she told her how he escaped Bokos to Kandor and binded with her mother to gain influence and power. She ends with the revelation of how she came to be. She asks him why didn't tell her about what she was sooner. Daron claims that he had his reasons. Nyssa refuses his answer, stating that it was not his decision to make since this was about her life and that she needs to know who she is. Daron replies by stating that she had always been the better part of her mother and keep going by apologizing for everything he did to her. Angry by his answer, she shouts that it is not apologies that she wants from him but answers about the night her mother died, what she was doing with her mother in a skimmer during a blizzard and the execution of the Vara Protocol on her. As her father is about to answer, a blast of a gun hits him dead. Nyssa turns around, distraught and sees sagitari led by Lyta-Zod holding a weapon.

Back to Kandor, Nyssa figures out that the tip was all Lyta and tells her that he was about to tell everything. Lyta replies by telling her that he would have told her lies and betray her in the end. Nyssa mentions that Seg would have been disgusted by her if he'd seen the way she treated the affair. Lyta stops and angrily tells her that he is not here and that while Nyssa and her resistance tears down everything Seg fought for, she and Zod are honoring his sacrifice by securing Krypton future. At the mention of Dru-Zod, Nyssa takes pause and express her resentment. She tries to convey to Lyta that there are never two people working together when power is involved. Lyta refutes her says, stating that her son is not like Daron.

Tumblr psgl6wUzl31w6vhrto1 540

Nyssa tells her that she won't know that until it is too late. But Lyta insists that Zod is Seg's son and ends by stating that the good in Seg is the same in Zod. Then, they both go before Zod.

There, Nyssa tries to fight off the sagitari holding her when she sees that Zod is cradling Cor. He tries to convince Nyssa to end the rebellion. When Nyssa utters the possibility of denying his request, Zod answers her that he won't hesitate in taking Cor from her and raise him himself. Nyssa claims that he is just like her father and cries for her son as Zod orders her to be taken away for the night.[10]

Nyssa is seen on board of a transportation vessel to the moon Wegthor after accepting the deal with Dru-Zod, looking out at the window. After disembarking, Nyssa walks with sad eyes, looking around her until an officer stops her. He tells her the distance from where she stands to the camp of the "rebels" but Nyssa unwilling to go through with the plan, walk feebly towards the resistance camp after the ejection for the atmosphere of the moon by an officer until he presses her.

At the camp of the resistance, Val-El and Jax-Ur find her while talking to the needs of the camp. Hearing their voices, Nyssa turns around and hugs them both fiercely. She right away admits that Zod sent her on Wegthor to spy on them. They tense immediately after her admission. Nyssa goes on by revealing that Zod has Cor-Vex. Jax suspiciously states that she is Zod's spy to which Nyssa replies by repeating that Zod has her baby. She takes her step forward and pleads with them to help her get him back but she encounters a thick wall of distrust. At that, she takes her step back and concedes that even if they have the right to distrust her she did not have much of a choice to come back and affirm that she would never betray them. After seeing that her pleading won't change their position, Nyssa powerless admits that she has pieces of information that could help the resistance. Val-El agrees to her out and she reveals that Zod uses solar flares to bring supplies to his troops. Jax asks her how did she get this information. Without getting into details, Nyssa answer that a sagitari still loyal to Daron, told her and announces them her father's death. Val is surprised by the news and asks what happened. Nyssa saddened, tells them that Lyta executed him by cold blood. She declares to Jax that she was right and the tip that she received was a trap. She confesses angrily that Lyta and Zod used her father to get to her. Val expresses his condolences and tries to be there for her by acknowledging her relationship with her father as complicated but that his death doesn't make it easier for her. Jax interrupts the exchange and proclaims that the information could be useful if proven right and she goes to verify it. On her way, she signals someone to watch Nyssa closely and Nyssa hugs Val while watching the exchange.

Tumblr ptfllf8QJJ1w6vhrto4 540

Later, Jax-Ur comes back after checking the information and affirming its veracity. She explains their plan to Nyssa to divert Zod's supply and ads that this could be a much-needed victory on the resistance's side. Nyssa replies that she's glad and that their plan will work.

Jax answers that they know soon enough. Then, Jax apologies for the surveillance and the confinement. Nyssa tells her that she doesn't need to apologize for she would have done the same thing stating it is war. Jax agrees and firmly affirms that it is war. Nyssa emotionally on edge admits that since the last time they saw each other everything became a mess with her father and her son, Jax stops her by telling her that she needs to be strong to get her son back and then she goes out but pause just before leaving the room. She turns around and asks Nyssa if she found what she was looking for with Daron. Nyssa tells her no and that she never will. Jax tells her that it is disappointing and orders her to rest and resume leaving.

Some time afterward, Nyssa contacts Zod. He speaks of her tardiness and asks if she passed on the information to which Nyssa replies by the affirmative and replies that the resistance watches her all the time. Zod directs her to gain their trust back and bring him back the codex then ends the communication. Nyssa, distraught, goes back to sit down on her bed when she hears some members passing by.[11]

"Will To Power"[]

On Wegthor, Nyssa watches the resistance get ready. At the same time, a woman talks to Jax-Ur and glances at Nyssa at the same time which brings Nyssa's attention into what's going on. The same woman then goes to talk to Nyssa's watchdog in front of her eyes without being able to understand what has been said, leaving her worried that she's been discovered.

In her chambers, Val-El goes to talk to Nyssa asking her if she needs some company. Nyssa replies that she already have company though he does not talk. Amused, Val asks her if she needs anything else, Saddened, Nyssa asks if that includes what she oblivious miss. Val tries to comfort her and promise that they'll do anything to get Cor-Vex back. She expresses her desire to hold him and for Seg-El to see Cor and also hold him. Val tells her that he believes that Seg will be back. Nyssa tells him that everyone sees her father when they look at her but that Seg had seen something else, something that even she, didn't see. She concludes by saying that he's not anymore and she doesn't know who she is anymore. Val tells her that it wasn't Seg that saved the resistance but her and that, is who she is. Nyssa, emotionally replies that Val sound just like Seg. Val amusingly, replies that as he is the oldest, it is Seg that sound like him. Amused, Nyssa laughs a bit and Val keeps going by saying that she sounds nothing like her father. Nyssa thanks him for saying that. He apologizes for the lack of answers she got from Daron but continues by trying to explain that the past does not define her but how she chose to live and moving forward. Nyssa tells him that it is hard to move forward when she is locked up. Val tells her that he'll see to it and Nyssa thanks him again for his help and believing in her. Val smiles at her and goes out, ordering her guard to give her some space.

Nyssa later finds the woman she saw earlier talking to Jax-Ur and salutes her, revealing her to be her ex-lover, the combat instructor, Araame. Araame tells her that she was wondering how long it will take for Nyssa to come and find her. Nyssa replies by a "nice to see you too". Araame asks her if her teaching paid off, and Nyssa reveals her that it did more time than she can count and asks her how did she end up working with resistance. Araame admits that she is no longer in the Military Guild and that she chose to follow Jax-Ur belief that Kryptonians are more than what the Genesis Chamber defines them. She adds that she fights for a scientist now. Nyssa concludes that they both changed. Araame admits that she thought about her. Nyssa agrees that they had good times together. Araame tells her that life set them apart and that she likes to be free. She then apologizes for hurting her. Nyssa gets closer to her and tells her that she can make it up to her now and go together.

After they slept together, Nyssa wakes up and transfers some data from the wrist of Araame to her's about the codex and while looking for its location, Nyssa discovers something that shocks her.[12]

"Danger Close"[]

Nyssa is with Val-El and Jax-Ur when they explain the plan to get control of the space elevator to the rebels. Jax thanks her in front of everybody and apologize for doubting her.

Later, Nyssa goes to talk with Val. She states that she needs to speak with me now about Jax-Ur. She shows him the data she acquired from Araame, telling him that she got them by an old friend who's a commander close to Jax and once she got it, she came straight to him. Val recognizes the schematics of a smart weapon. Nyssa confirms that it is a weapon linked to the codex and its genetic index. She goes on explaining to him that this weapon can shut down any biosignature it wants on a massive scale. Val understands where she goes with it and fears like her that if the wrong hands get hold of that. Nyssa finishes his thought by stating that it could mean genocide. Val expresses his concern about the danger of this weapon; one single miscalculation could destroy Krypton. She tells him that is why she came to him so that he can help her stop it.

While the rebels try to get control of the space elevator, Nyssa go get the codex from where Jax hide it and while they die, Nyssa is seen leaving the rebels' headquarters with the codex in her hands to give it to Dru-Zod.[13]

"A Better Yesterday"[]

On her way back to Kandor City, Nyssa encounters a group of sagitari pointing guns at her. After identifying herself, hands up, the officer she came with on Wegthor, comes and expresses his surprise to see her. She counters back that he may tell his men off now and he confirms her identity to them.

Nyssa-Vex reporting

He apologies for that and explain that his men are on edge since a few sagitari left for the rebels and mocks them for their ungratefulness. Nyssa agrees that it is hard to know who's on who's side anymore. The officer touches her shoulders to announces her that it is time for her to get back to Kandor to which she seems uncomfortable by the friendliness of the officer. As they get back to the headquarters, Nyssa asks him why they all are looking at her. He guesses that they probably want to thank her for what she did. Not understanding, Nyssa asks for what. The officer tells her it is because of the tainted oxygenators. He goes on to tell her that if it wasn't for them, their HQ would be overrun by rebels by now. Nyssa asks him aggressively what tainted oxygenators. He explains that the intel she reported to Jax-Ur and Val-El led them to gave tainted oxygenators to rebels that wanted to take Zod's headquarters on Wegthor and all of them died before anything could happen. He ends by stating that she saved their lives. As a distraught Nyssa try to digest this information the officer asks her if she did report the intel, and she responds with the affirmative, telling him that she is responsible for all of it. On that, Lyta-Zod appears and congratulates her for choosing the right side.

Later, she is seen by Adam Strange and Kem by Lyta's side.

Once, Nyssa and Lyta are alone, Nyssa angrily asks Lyta why did she use her as she did, knowing about the tainted oxygenators. Lyta, amused, expresses her surprise that Nyssa didn't suspect anything and retorts her that she didn't really think that they would send her on Wegthor without anything to unsure her loyalty towards Zod. Lyta continues by saying that they both did what was necessary and that now they have a chance to end the war peacefully and that she has a chance to get her son.

NUP 185655 1377 FULL

The officer interrupts them and informs Lyta that Val and Jax are willing to negotiate which prompts Lyta to tell Nyssa that she did make the right choice after all but Nyssa looks doubtfull.

Sometime after, as a sagitari is about the activate the Zeta Beam, Nyssa shoots him and free Kem and Adam. She tells them to hurry and go back to the rebels, she explains that they are passages that would lead them back there. Kem surprised asks her if she is not going to come with them. She tells him that she can't now that she is a traitor to both sides. Adam asks her where will she go now to which she says to get her son back.[14]

"In Zod We Trust"[]

On her way to Kandor in the space elevator, Nyssa contacts Dru-Zod to inform him that she got what he demanded and that she's on her way to get her son back. When Zod tries to change the arrangement of the deal, she threatens to destroy the codex. Zod asks her if she's ready to condemn their entire species by doing it to which she replies that she'll do whatever it takes for her family. Zod then reiterates his promise but as Nyssa is questioning his word, he abruptly ends the communication.

Nyssa-Vex defeats her Sagitari escort
Nyssa-Vex reunites with Seg-El

Upon her arrival in Kandor, Nyssa is taken by two sagitari who tries to get her confirmation from her that the codex is on her person. They suddenly stop her and change their direction for a more secluded area. Doubtful on their intentions, Nyssa doesn't move from where she stands. The two sagitari then openly make comments to destabilize her to push her down but when they get close enough, Nyssa kills them both with a hidden knife in her inside pocket and runs away when two other sagitari comes into view. As she is running away, Nyssa is taken aside suddenly by someone who is to Nyssa's surprise, Seg-El. She hugs him joyfully but loses her smile when she sees the sagitari that were behind her only to be surprised again at the sight of Dev-Em and Jayna-Zod.

Later, Dev, Jayna, and Seg take Nyssa in her more private place. There, Nyssa explains to Seg that in order to get her son back, she had to make a deal with Zod which entailed betraying Val-El and the resistance. She also informs him that the codex had been modified by Val so that no one could be weaponized it. Jayna interrupts them and says to Nyssa that she had to know that Zod would have her killed without hesitation once he'd know about the modification of the codex. Nyssa tells her that she is prepared to do anything for her son just like she would have done anything for Lyta. Jayna, still grieving her daughter's death, agrees to help get her son back and found a way for her to infiltrate House Zod but Seg has another plan based on Nyssa getting there by the front door. He theorized that the element of surprise will get Zod exactly where they want him to be. Dev objects, explaining that it is not a reasonable plan which gets Seg to snap at him. He asks Nyssa if she trusts him. She replies that she does. Seg tells her that she can trust that he won't anything happen to the people that he loves. Then, he takes her and tells everyone that they'll work the details on their way.

At House Zod, while Zod angrily demands a sagitari that Nyssa-Vex is to be presented here, but she makes her surprise presence known. She asks him about her son but Zod tells her that her son is safe and will be reunited with his mother when she will give him the codex. She presents it before him but wants Cor to be given to her first. Zod asks her if she really thinks to be in a position of power in his own house. Nyssa confidently answers affirmatively and explains that the codex had been locked and can respond only to her voice, any attempts would cause it to self-destruct. Zod admits his surprise and Nyssa replies that it is due to his capacity to underestimate people. Faced with this obstacle to getting the codex, Zod admits that she surprised him with everything she did to get the codex. Nyssa tells him that she is not proud of what she's done but did only what had to and Zod express that it is precisely her capacity of doing what needed to do to get what needed to be done that impress him. He then offers Nyssa to work with him and to eventually become a governor to one of Krypton's colonies. Nyssa tells him that Krypton doesn't have colonies but Zod tells her that it will. Nyssa gives him the codex and Zod calls someone to bring Cor. She runs happily to get him when she sees him and take him in her arms. After a few moments, Zod angrily grabs her shoulder and demands that she unlocks the codex. Nyssa orders him to remove his hand unless he wants the codex to detect her stress level. After Zod removes his hand, she orders him to get the guards out of the room too which he does.

Nyssa-Vex retrieves her son

Then while moving away from him, Nyssa removes the security of the codex using the password. Once the codex, decrypted, Zod tells her that he'll need to verify the authenticity of the codex and reinstates again that he is impressed by her. Nyssa asks him once the codex's authentification how can she trusts him to let them leave. Zod, dazzled by the codex responds that now that they'll work together, she'll have to learn to trusts him. Nyssa with Cor in her arms looks away anxiously through the window and replies with the words "leap of faith". Behind her, Zod agrees. She then tells him that she's concluded it the only way and deactivates the protective window. Zod looks up to see what she's doing and calls up the guard. He tries to get to her but she jumps with Cor.

Seg-El & Nyssa-Vex flee in a skimmer

Once he's where she stood mere seconds ago, he sees her in a skimmer with Seg. He tries to shoot the skimmer down but they succeed in getting away.

On their way to the rendezvous point, Seg and Nyssa get problems with their skimmer. Panicked and scared, Seg saves with the help of Brainiac.

Arriving in the bar in the Outlands, Nyssa sees a distraught Jayna. She goes to her and giver her condolences, explaining that she and Lyta didn't like each other but that she respected Lyta and if she could have done anything to prevent her death she could have and they all agree to make Dru-Zod pay for what he did to her and her death. However, Jayna worries more about what happens next and says that no matter what, Lyta would never come back.

Sometime after, Nyssa is looking after Seg outside from the inside of the bar with Cor-Vex in her arms. Once he comes back, she asks him what's wrong with him, he reveals to her that Brainiac is still alive, inside him and that she is the only he can trust with that information and finishes by saying that he meant what he said earlier and won't let anything bad happening to her or their son.[15]

"Zods And Monsters"[]

Seg-El & Nyssa-Vex in a skimmer

Nyssa, holding Cor-Vex, is with Seg in a skimmer. She asks him where are they going but when Seg refuses to tell her and asks her to trust him, she understands that Seg doesn't want Brainiac to know where they are going in case he can hear them. But Brainiac Seg informs Seg that not only can he hear what he says but also what he thinks and he takes momentarily control of Seg's body causing the skimmer to pick down until Nyssa takes control. Seg tries as best as he can to tell her to take them to the Fortress which she does.

At the Fortress, Nyssa helps Seg walking as Brainiac presence overpowering by the minutes. I.A Val appears in front of them and offers his service to them. Seg explains to him that Brainiac is inside him and he tells them to follow him. Seg stops Nyssa from following and asks them to wait, telling her that he needs to hold Cor-Vex one last time but he collapses before.

Sometime later, Nyssa assists I.A Val in locating Brainiac in Seg's body to remove it but when the tasks at hand prove to be harder than originally thought, Nyssa asks Seg if he's sure to proceed. At his answer, she steps closer to him and kisses him on the forehead. However, when the procedure begins, Brainiac fights back and damage the machine to extract him. I.A Val suggests then, that Nyssa will have to do it manually. At that suggestion, Nyssa disagrees vehemently, telling them that he would be a very bad idea. I.A Val asks her if she ever used a sonic scalpel and Nyssa sarcastically answer that she does, all the time. I.A Val not picking up her tone, loves her answers and begins telling her how to do the procedure but Nyssa stops him and tells him that she was being sarcastic. I.A Val, never experienced sarcasm before, finds it fascinating and concede that without prior knowledge, it is going to be challenging.

Nyssa-Vex exorcizes Brainiac from Seg-El

Nyssa fearfully refuses to do it and apologies, claiming there has to be another way. Seeing her fear of failure manifesting, Seg intervenes and talks to her about all the things that she had done to get Cor back and on the infinite possibilities that she would fail and yet, prevailed them all. Inspired by his words, Nyssa finally agrees to do it.

Assisted by I.A Val, Nyssa begins the procedure and cuts through Seg's skin behind his neck and, encouraged by Seg, she successfully takes out all remained nanites of Brainiac and I.A Val releases Seg from his restraints. Seg thanks Nyssa and she asks him if he's alright. He tells her that he's now thanks to her. He steps closer to her and hugs her and tells her that he wants to hold his son as himself for the first time. Nyssa at the sight of the two of them together announces him that she doesn't want her son to carry the Vex name, with all the bad things she did and the way she was raised by Daron-Vex, asserting that her last name was forever tainted by what her father did to the people of Kandor and her. Seg tells his son's new name, Cor-El. But I.A Val-El intervenes and tells them that traditionally when a newborn was taking the last name of El, they would take the name of an esteemed member of the family and proposes

Nyssa-Vex & Seg-El rename their son

the name of his own father, Seg's great grandfather, to which Nyssa accepts. They name him then, Jor-El.

Later, Seg shows his family's sigle on his torso and as Nyssa asks if he has one in Jor-El's size, an alert interrupts them. I.A Val explains that Brainiac's nanites have escaped.

As I.A Val states the Fortress have been scanned three times for any nanites, Seg concludes that they have to be in one of them. Nyssa, in denial, states that one of them would have felt something but Seg replies that it is biodigital and asks I.A Val to scan Jor first. I.A Val scans him but doesn't find any biodigital alien presence within him. Nyssa sighs in relief and smiles down to Jor. Then Seg asks him to scan Nyssa and I.A Val doesn't detect anything either. Seg smiles at her and Nyssa go put down Jor in his cradle. Seg assumes that it has to be in him but Nyssa tells him that he doesn't know that and order I.A Val to run the scan. Seg tries to comfort her but Nyssa tells him that they only just got him back. I.A Val breaks in and tells Seg that Nyssa is right. But just as he tries to give them an explanation, I.A Val changes into Brainiac.

Brainiac returns

Brainiac explains to Seg that everything that's happened could have been avoided since he's no longer interested in bottling Kandor City. But Seg tells him that he doesn't believe him to which Brainiac replies that he doesn't matter and suggests them to stand back when his ship creates a hole in the Fortress with some rubbles falling down on them but they avoid them as they run back. Brainiac tries to convince Seg to come with him but Seg refuses, telling him that he only seeks destructions. Except that Brainiac disagrees, stating that he only wants to preserve what is unique to every civilization in the universe. He continues by accepting that his choice however irrational will be accepted and steps into the light created by ship to be transported.

NUP 185657 1370

Once in his ship, Brainiac tells them that his mission has always been to preserve what is best to each civilization and he though it was Kandor City but that now, what's best on Krypton resides in the El's blood. Suddenly, Jor-El cries and disappears in front of both Nyssa and Seg.

Nyssa cries and tries to steps into the light to be transported as well but Seg holds her back and the ship leaves Krypton and jumps into high space for another planet.[16]

"Mercy"[]

In the aftermath of Jor-El's abduction, while Seg frenetically scans parcels of the universe for any trace of Brainiac, Nyssa is sit down in the Fortress, still in shock. After listening to Seg's endless search through the scanners for hours, she decides to stop him.

Nyssa-Vex & Seg-El

She tries to reason a distraught Seg that refuses to cope with what happened. Seg apologizes for what happened to Jor, blaming himself after he promised her that he would not let anything bad happened to Jor or her. Nyssa admits that after seeing both of them together for the first time, she thought that it was too good to be true. At her defeated tone, Seg vows to never give up to which Nyssa replies that no one said anything about giving up on Jor adding that she would raise the universe before doing that. Suddenly, Nyssa remembers that Val-El talked about Brainiac potential future during his time in the Phantom Zone. But Seg tells her that communications on Wegthor are compromised yet Nyssa is adamant and tells him that they have to get there when they hear some noises. They get ready to attack but realize that it is Dev-Em and Jayna-Zod.

After explaining to both Jayna and Dev what happened to Jor, Jayna relates to the loss of a child and expresses her sympathy in their sorrow. Then they announce Nyssa and Seg that Zod is preparing to attack Wegthor very soon and together they devise a plan to infiltrate Fort Rozz to destroy his fleet.

Seg-El & Nyssa-Vex surrender

Inside Fort Rozz, they try to quietly and unsuccessfully disable some sagitari in a hallway and Seg with Nyssa surrender to let Dev and Jayna a chance to escape.

Inside Lyta-Zod's dream, Nyssa appears to be present during Seg and Lyta bidding ceremony. The extraction of some Black Mercy's serum caused Lyta's reality to dissolved. As a consequence, Nyssa materializes as a figure of truth, violently harassing Lyta with past mistakes.

Meanwhile, Nyssa and Seg make fun of the group of sagitari accompanying them to annoy them which reveals to be effective as they inform them that they are on their way to General Zod.

Seg-El & Nyssa-Vex captured

In front of him, Zod tries to get them to talk by mentioning Cor-Vex. Nyssa tells him that the blast their skimmer received by him almost killed him adding that he does have to pretend about him. Seg resumes by talking about Lyta and hos he had failed her. While Zod attempts to portray Val's Resistance as a danger for Kryptonians bringing up the space's elevator bombing, Nyssa stands by Val, stating that he is a good man and that everyone did things for this war that they are not proud of. Zod tries to make peace with Seg by telling him that he knows he loved Lyta but Seg states that if he really loved, she would still be alive. Affected by his words, Zod tells him that he tried to warn them about Jax-Ur's intentions and gave Nyssa and him a chance to join him for a better future for Krypton. Seg declares to him loud and clear that with him as their leader, Krypton has no future as his actions proved it. Zod asserts then that if they are not going to tell him what they are doing here, he can found out on his own. Seg reminds him that the somatic reconditioning doesn't work on him. Zod gives him that but reckons that it may work on Nyssa. Terrified, they are taken away as Seg shouts for Zod.

In their cell, Seg tries to find a way out before Nyssa's reconditioning. But Nyssa tells him that it is useless as the cell is very well secure. At her defeated look, Seg goes to sit down next to her and asks her why every time he tries to save someone he loves, he ends up putting someone else in danger. Nyssa, knowing where he's going, tells him that what's happening is not on him, she chose to be here. Nyssa proceeds by saying that they have to be, for Jor-El. Seg tells her then that what she said about Jor and him, together, being too good to be true, is not what he wants and that he doesn't know what's going to happen next but insists that he'll be with her every step of the way. Unexpectedly, they hear some noises.

Dev-Em frees Seg-El & Nyssa-Vex

Believing it is guards coming for Nyssa, Seg shouts that he'll tell Zod everything he wants to know if he lets her alone and after several moments, Dev appears to break them out of their cell.

Dev leads them away and makes them wait while they are wondering where Jayna is. After Dev tries to prepare Seg for what's about to happen, Nyssa and Seg are surprised when Lyta appears in front of their eyes.

Nyssa-Vex also appeared in the illusion created by the Black Mercy within Lyta-Zod's mind, as a guest at the wedding between Lyta and Seg. She was seen to be in possible relationship with Dev-Em and her unnamed sister was also present. When Lyta noticed that something was wrong with reality, Nyssa told Lyta that she brought a suffering to many Kryptonians, including to Nyssa, in the last six months.[17]

"Blood Moon"[]

Nyssa was in the Outlands outpost with Seg, Dev-Em, Jayna and Lyta. Dev suggested to Seg to go with his modified skimmer for Wegthor. Seg and Nyssa left, while others stayed in the outpost. After they arrived, Seg warned Val about Zod's fleet of the ships coming on the moon. Val also told Seg that Nyssa previously worked for them before she left HQ as she also worked as Zod's spy, a fact that she soon apologised to him. Nyssa was in the HQ with others to observe the assault team who were ready to attack on the surface. One ship with Sagitari and Doomsday, the latter attacking the whole unit. As Doomsday progressed, the team separated as Nyssa was tasked to take other rebels to capture the ship, in which they succeeded. All civilians and the rebels were put in the ship, but Nyssa and Val were concerned for Seg as the moon began to explode in space.[18]

Personality[]

Nyssa is a woman in her mid-twenties and she's tall, blond with blue eyes. Nyssa is an ambitious, fearless, manipulative, highly intelligent and cunning woman. Since she was a child, Nyssa's only fear is failure and she is ready to do whatever it takes to achieve what she set out to do and is not afraid to go to extreme lengths. Nyssa's manipulative side was shown when in an attempt to gain Seg-El's trust, she gave him his parent's ashes.[2]

Nyssa is also very quick-witted. She figured out the secret affair between Seg-El and Lyta-Zod. Moreover, Nyssa is completely devoted to Kandor, as seen in her and her father Daron-Vex's plan to overthrow the Voice of Rao and re-establish a golden age and unite Kandor City.[4] however, despite this, she has displayed a soft side when Seg came to her to help Lyta, accused of treason and accepted Lyta's case as her advocate. Even though an accomplished lawmaker as her, could not do anything to set Lyta free as the evidence is made up at the demand of the Voice of Rao, she tried her best to give Lyta-Zod a way out by talking to her father, Daron and Jayna-Zod.

Nyssa doesn't believe in the power of the Gods of Krypton. She is like her father, Daron in that way she believes in her own power and use sometimes the devotion other Kryptonians have for the Voice of Rao to her own advantage.

Nyssa considers herself a manipulative instrument that her father, Daron molded in his own image and betrayed everything she stood for to get her father's love. Though Nyssa is very strong and brave, she does possess her sense of unworthiness within her. Stubborn and very determined, she is willing to betray anything that means something to her, even herself to achieve her goals.

As a mother, Nyssa is warm, loving and fiercely protective towards her son, Jor-El. After realizing that her father, Daron didn't love her the way she wanted, she vowed to love her child no matter what and promised Seg that she would not make the same error Daron did with her.

Dialogue[]

The Phantom Zone[]
[Aiming her gun at the Oracle]
Nyssa-Vex
You had best hurry up if you value whatever programming has you believing in your own sentience.
Oracle
Congratulations, your request has been fast-tracked. A Medusoid has been dispatched for immediate delivery and pick up.
Nyssa-Vex
That's more like it.
Nyssa-Vex
You're lying. My childhood, I remember it. My sisters. I remember us playing, I remember us fighting.
Jax-Ur
Part of your somatic reconditioning.
Nyssa-Vex
This can't be real.
Jax-Ur
I can promise you it is. Because I created it inadvertently. My work was supposed to cure disease, end suffering, extend life. But that wasn't enough for the elite Houses. They wanted immortality. And your father allowed them to manipulate my Codex technology so that when a body was used up, it could be cast away like an empty shell. Its consciousness transferred into a clone.
Nyssa-Vex
My whole life has been a lie.
