Mama Zed was a member of the Rankless. She was also the adoptive mother of Kem.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Prelude[edit | edit source]

Mama Zed raised Kem, even though she was not his mother.

Season 1[edit | edit source]

"The Word of Rao"[edit | edit source]

When Kem is trying to explain to Ona about the death of her mother, Rhom, he takes her to Mama Zed for food and help in explaining the situation.[1]

Season 2[edit | edit source]

"Light-Years From Home"[edit | edit source]

Mama Zed killed while Val-El, Jax-Ur, and Adam Strange look on

Noticing Adam Strange returned from the future, Mama Zed arranged for him to be taken off the street by Jax-Ur and away from suspicious Sagitari to the secret hideout she and the resistance to General Zod had been using. She later goes with Nyssa-Vex on her search for her father, Daron-Vex, but is captured by Lyta-Zod and forced to reveal the location of the hideout.

As she enters the hideout, Val-El asks her where Nyssa and Cor are but she looks apologetic. She then tells him, Adam Strange, and Jax-Ur that she was sorry and began claiming that she had no other choice, before she is shot in the back and killed by one of Lyta's Sagitari.[2]

Personality[edit | edit source]

Kind and warm, Mama Zed is a maternal figure towards Kem and by extension, Seg as she raised the Rankless Tavern owner from childhood. She acts as her adoptive son's voice of reason when he begins to doubt his ability to raise Ona after her mother's death.

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Having raised Kem, Mama Zed would have known Seg as well. Seg mentions her when he and Kem talk about what to tell Ona about Rhom's death.
  • It's unclear why Mama Zed betrayed Val, Jax, Adam, and Nyssa.
